We carry them soaked in olive oil as well but there’s something special about scooping up a bag of these sweet, chewy gems. Continue Reading
Root Vegetable Tarte with Goat Cheese, Asian Pears and Fresh Herbs
So, not very long ago I wagered dinner on a round of skeeball. Cooking’s, well, a bit of a passion of mine and I work at the best spot on the shore to find local organic produce. Did I throw the game? I’m not telling. What’s important is that I now had a challenge on my hands. I wanted to deliver something impressive yet light, full of deep wintery flavors with a touch of spring playfulness. Here’s what I came up with. Continue Reading
Vegan Pumpkin Alfredo with Greens….mmmm!
As mild as this winter’s been, there have still been a few chilly nights when tucking in to a rich and creamy pasta dinner seems like a great idea. And sometimes all the heavy dairy in a traditional Alfredo can be a bit much. We came across this little vegan gem today though that hits all the right spots.

BEET Poetry
Yesterday the New York Times ran a piece on beets. It seems this ruddy veggie’s been enjoying a meteoric rise to the top in some of the finest restaurants around the world. Is it its color? Its sweet earthy flavor? Its tender but toothsome bite? It’s easy to wax poetic about beets but we’ll let Tom Robbins do it for us for just a moment: Continue Reading

What’s That Delicious Smell?
Back in the Nature’s Corner kitchen there’s always something going on. Here I caught Gerri, our resident food magician, Lauren, our illustrious produce manager and a very hungry Jude sampling Gerri’s latest creation:Roasted Sunchokes and Sweet Potatoes. This is one hot, hearty dish that really shows off one of Lauren’s best finds Local Sunchokes. These tasty tubers have a distinctive artichoke flavor but actually come from that most familiar of plants, the sunflower. Between these guys and the local fingerling sweet potatoes this dish isn’t just a delight to the palate but is also packed with nutrients-vitamins, minerals, fiber, everything you need for a very happy belly. Want to make this dish at home? It’s incredibly easy, I should know, I stole the recipe for you! Continue Reading

Chicken Soup for the (Veggie) Soul
Vegetarians need not feel left out. The recipe below maintains the golden hue and soothing warmth of regular chicken soup, but instead of oily schmaltz it gets its depth of flavor from long-simmered garlic and vegetables. The addition of lemongrass provides a hint of bright citrus fragrance, which adds a welcome complexity to the broth. Continue Reading
