Grass-Fed Angus, Now THAT’S What’s For Dinner!
BEET Poetry
Yesterday the New York Times ran a piece on beets. It seems this ruddy veggie’s been enjoying a meteoric rise to the top in some of the finest restaurants around the world. Is it its color? Its sweet earthy flavor? Its tender but toothsome bite? It’s easy to wax poetic about beets but we’ll let Tom Robbins do it for us for just a moment:
And the Greatest Aphrodesiac of All… Chocolate
Chocolate is the official gift of Valentine’s Day. It’s more than just a case of “sweets for the sweet” though. Throughout history, chocolate has been regarded as one of the most potent aphrodisiacs known to man (and maybe even more so to woman). From it’s beginnings in Central America where cacao beans were ground, roasted and made into an energizing beverage to the French royal palaces where it first became a confection, chocolate has become a ubiquitous and delicious part of life. Some people claim chocolate is even better than love but does it really make us more, uh, romantic?
Hello, February! How Are Those New Year’s Resolutions Coming?
Okay everyone. Let’s be realistic. We’re a little over a month in to 2012. We made it through the Superbowl and we’ve got Valentine’s Day staring us down. How are those resolutions coming? Yeah. I thought so. Wouldn’t it be nice to feel lighter, cleaner, more energetic? Couldn’t you use a little more pep in your step and a little less of that urge to hibernate? Maybe it’s time you considered ReNew Life Organic Cleanse.
Something Worth Sharing
This little guy is incredible. I especially love the line about how we can pay the farmers or we can pay the hospitals. If you read yesterday’s post about Paula Deen admitting she’s got diabetes and then turning around and selling a $500 a month diabetes medication, this video should ring out as a breath of fresh air. It’s not all a problem, my friends, there’s hope out there. Sometimes in unlikely, and even small, packages.
A Thought-Provoking Lecture
Jamie Oliver talks about how learning to cook healthy food can save children’s lives. There’s not much to say by way of introduction, I think I’ll just let the guy speak for himself. Really, watch this video.

We Have a Right to Know!
Why are we one of the only countries left that doesn’t require the labeling of genetically modified foods? It’s time for a change. If you want to tell the FDA to JUST LABEL IT, click on http://justlabelit.org/ for more information and to sign their petition to the FDA for nothing more than the right to know what’s in our food!
Best. Kale. Ever.
Russian Red Kale is my absolute favorite green, not least of all because it’s purple! It’s sweet, tangy, a little peppery, as versatile as any green and it’s LOCAL! Whenever I see this gorgeous veggie on our shelves I pick up two bunches. One to gnaw on on my way home and one to actually cook. For those of you who are color eaters (different colors, different nutrients), check out this recipe. It pairs this beautiful green/purple plant with bright orange squash. Between just these two ingredients you end up loading up on beta carotene, potassium, magnesium, vitamins K, C, E and B6, leutein, calcium and fiber. Check it out!

“Pears” Well With Anything!
As winter deepens, often our thoughts turn to heavier, starchier cold weather food. This can leave us feeling, well, a little heavier too. What’s a grounded snowbird to do? Have you tried a pear? Imagine it-juicy, sweet, refreshing, tender, a little crisp maybe? That’s right. We often don’t think of pears this time of year but we’ve got em over at the Corner. And if this hasn’t sold you yet, check out 5 Juicy Reasons to Eat Pears from Organic Authority. Okay, wipe your chin, we’ll see you in produce.
Hit The Road… And Still Stay Healthy!
Now that the holidays are over and life is getting back to normal there are plenty of reasons to travel. Just the other day a customer was remarking that she travels extensively for work and always comes in to Nature’s Corner to stock up on supplies in case her job sends here to a place where she can’t find foods to meet her specialized diet. While vacations are often a great time to indulge, wouldn’t it be nice to find a cosy little place serving up the healthy foods that make you feel good? Allow me to introduce you to EatWellGuide.Org. Here you can enter any zip code or key word for a list of health-conscious businesses, restaurants, farmer’s markets, csa programs and more all committed to Organic, Local, Sustainable values.
