GMO Apples That Do Not Turn Brown… Would You Eat Them?
Here at Nature’s Corner, we ensure that our fresh produce is 100% Organic and that includes NO GMOs. A Canadian Company is one step closer to introducing a non-browning apple onto store shelves in the US and Canada. Okanagan Specialty Fruits has officially filed a request to start selling two varieties of its GMO apples—Arctic Golden and Arctic Granny—in Canada and the U.S. that the company claims can stay “fresh” for weeks without browning, even once the apples have been sliced. Staff Pick: Guayakí Organic Yerba Mate
This week we have Paris’ staff pick: Guayaki Organic Yerba Mate tea. He loves drinking it first thing in the morning. With one-third the caffeine of a cup of coffee, its rich robust flavor is a great alkaline alternative to an acidic cup of joe. Sustainably sourced from the rainforest and loaded with cleansing antioxidants…a nice refreshing, feel-good beverage for a warm summer day.

Try This Tonight: Garlic Scape Dressing
Garlic scape is a unique looking vegetable that we have this time of year and it’s both Local and Organic from Merrick Farm just 12 miles from us. Their bright, curly shoots emerge from garlic bulbs in mid to late spring and have to be clipped off to allow the garlic bulb to properly develop. They taste great sliced up and sauteed with other vegetables or worked into a pesto. This dressing is a perfect place for these mild, green, garlicky shoots. Stop by tonight for local, fresh, organic garlic scapes for this recipe.

History of Father’s Day
Did you ever wonder how the special day for good ol’ Dad ever started? Well on July 19, 1910, the governor of the U.S. state of Washington proclaimed the nation’s first “Father’s Day.” However, it was not until 1972, 58 years after President Woodrow Wilson made Mother’s Day official, that the Day for Dads became a nationwide holiday in the United States. Read more about the day here.
