At Nature’s Corner, we’re committed to local food. It’s only fitting then, that our first field trip was to Lima Family Farm in Hillsborough, New Jersey, producers of our local, farm-fresh, organic free-range eggs.
Conventional eggs are usually the product of large-scale industrial chicken farms where the birds are confined to overpopulated cramped quarters, given feed full of artificial ingredients and hormones, steroids and antibiotics to keep them alive. While all of this is pretty gory, it doesn’t have to be that way.
At Lima Family Farms the chickens run free and are allowed to graze and forage as much as they’d like. Their laying house is moved periodically to ensure there are always tasty morsels in the fields around them. The chickens are also fed organic grain from nearby farms so there’s never any shortage of food to go around. These chickens are happy and healthy and have no need for artificial hormones or antibiotics. Take a look for yourself and see the care and love that go into making a good egg.
